America: the first modern country that fought a war for certain universal principles. America gaining independence changed the way people thought about revolution. But a large question looms over us- “was America justified in waging war and breaking away from Britain?” The answer lies in the history books- which how that the answer is yes. America was justified in waging war and breaking away from britain because they had no representatives in parliament, the British were violating their basic english rights, and unfair acts and taxes were thrown upon the colonists without their consent. The first reason the revolution is justified is that the colonists had no representatives in parliament. Parliament was a branch of the British monarchy that created laws and acts for the colonies and the U.K. The problem was, not one representative in parliament was from the colonies and knew the conditions there. Parliament was absolutely clueless. Most of this,of course, was the King’s doing. The colonists were kept under constant watch by the soldiers and were forced to house the soldiers for free. The colonists were even shot and killed during the Boston Massacre of March 5, 1770.
