I believe Lincoln was not a tyrant. A tyrant is an oppressive ruler who abuse their power. He was introduced into office with a very difficult situation, therefore; he needed to extend the powers he was given to benefit the country. In the article,”Was Lincoln a Tyrant?” they mentioned a lot of things that made Lincoln look like a bad president, but he did it all for a reason. To benefit the country. The article said, “Lincoln’s reputation is less marred because his accrual of power was equal to the threat facing the nation.” The way lincoln responded to the situation was very appropriate. The reasoning for that thinking is that he over used his power. Also in the article, “Was Lincoln a Tyrant?”, there was a lot of information about why he was a tyrant. The article stated, “In the spring of 1862, Lincoln spent considerable time meeting with the Kentuckians, urging them to agree to compensated emancipation. Their resistance led Lincoln to write the preliminary proclamation in July.” A few paragraphs in this article made it seem like he was a very selfish man that got what he wanted when he wanted it. He didn't get what he wanted to he pushed back. In his term he made a lot of poor decisions that reflected his lousy personality. Not only that but the other way around as well.
