To begin, In today’s society American teens are going to school energized and are eager to learn usually in the beginning of the school year. Although, over time some teens performance plummet in which some are said to be exhausted from being overworked and others say differently. However, two different articles have went in depth with the concept of kids and young teenagers being overstressed and exhausted from due to over work. One of the article is from Frank Bruni titled “Today’s Exhausted Superkids” where he collaborated on teenagers to be overstressed and exhausted from school courses. Yet, he had focused on wealthy/ privileged families. On the other hand, Robert Pondiscio has written an article called “The Myth of the Overstressed …show more content…

Yet I do not agree simply because they are to procrastinate on their work which they misjudged the assignment not knowing how confusing or hard the assignment is going to be. Nevertheless, there are some teenagers parents would do Helicopter Parenting meaning that they are to overschedule their kids with AP course and other resources to help prepare the student for exams and their assignments according to Bruni. For all that, I believe those are the students that are to be truly exhausted and overstressed from being overworked while other teenagers are to be on their smartphones or tablets all night and not getting the enough sleep leaving them exhausted the next day according to Bruni. Furthermore, I would also be more onward on my phone more than my homework which affected my grades hugely for example, I would playing games on my phone which sometimes or be on youtube watching car videos (which I have a passion for) where I would lose track of time and forget about that I had homework which I would try to finish that same day late at night. Pondiscio article is an argumental of Bruni’s claims on the exhausted and overstressed teen where Bruni’s referring to privilege american teen and not as a whole american society. Pondiscio argument is that to not believe in student to be overworked and exhausted and also that I absolutely agree upon. The american teenager in high school only about 19 percent graduate and only two-thirds of American Teen graduate with none AP course as Pondiscio states. Yet, we can infer that their no evidence that the teenager is to be exhausted and yet, Pondiscio is only referring to one source from a trio of researchers Joseph L. Mahoney, Angel L. Harris and Jacquelyne S. Eccles. I consider that even though it is from one source, but there are three people in the research in which it only makes sense that it makes it more reliable than only one person like in Bruni’s article. Anyhow, referring back to bruni where he states that helicopter parenting which parents fill their kids schedule with extracurricular activities then their kids lose their most of the sleep they need. However, with over schedule extracurricular activities may sound exhausted but yet, it has some positive outcomes for example, physical safety, higher self-esteem and also higher high school
