The story is about a man, Tom, that lives in the “drooling ward” of the mental institution, in which he likes to see as his home. When he says “feeble”, “droolers”, and “epilecs throughout the story, he can be described as compassionate about himself, and humorous at times. The reader is getting the perspective of the patient; he was released from the hospital two times. Many at institutions aren’t released, and so the overall experience described can be very astonishing to readers. Subsequently, each time he left the institution, and went to other homes he didn’t like it and surprisingly reverted back to the institution.
