Toni Morrison, is a Novelist writer and professor in American literature. Toni Morrison finished her education at Howard and Cornell University which led her to become a professor teaching at Howard. While being a professor at Howard most students and teachers had trouble pronouncing her name Chloe Wofford, so she changed it to Toni Morrison. Although Morrison was happy with her name change over time it became a regretful decision. She would now like for people to know her by Chloe Wofford rather than Toni Morrison. The beginning of Toni Morrison career was not everything she had hope for. Her writing was not the best in the industry which is proven in her first book “The Bluest Eye”. The Bluest Eye was published in 1970, when the color of your skin still had a great effect on your life. “The Bluest Eye” is the story of an eleven year old colored girl, Pecola Breedlove, who had trouble seeing herself as beautiful because of her physical features and society’s thoughts of beauty. This novel did not sell well when first published but later made Morrison a Nobel Prize winner for literature in 1993. In 1997, four years after winning the Nobel Prize “Paradise” was published. His mother abandoned him in the trash when he was only four days old. Luckily his Aunt Jimmy finds him and takes him in. Aunt Jimmy and his mom gets into a conflict about keeping him, so Cholly mom runs off and never returns. Cholly’s dad was never in the picture he had ran out on Cholly’s mom when she became pregnant. Later in life two white men caught Cholly having sex in the grass and forced him to keep going while they watched, laughed, and made fun of him. Cholly was humiliated.
