Life is a weird and hurtful thing. In the book I read the hate you give by Angie Thomas, star Carter realized that, when she was only 16. witnessing one of her friends get shot from a police officer because he thought he was grabbing a weapon from his car. Starr realizes that the hardest part of growing up is the amount of responsibility you now carry. There's a lot of reliability put on you, tough decisions you now have to make and realizing that life isn't always going to be fair.
The amount of reliability put on you as an adult is overwhelming at times. there's more put on you to bring something for Thanksgiving dinner, pack kids lunches, or know what to have for separate every night. In Starr's case, it was people relying on her for information about Khalil's case and for her to show up and participate in any way in protests. Starr Carter once said "what's the point of having a voice if you're going to be silent in those moments you shouldn't be?” This quote is important because it tells us that no one has gotten anywhere in life by being silent. speaking and being silent both have an impact on change.
