Touro Synagogue Reflection

On October 9th, 2015, I went to Touro Synagogue to observe and partake in a Friday night Sabbath worship. At the intersection of General Pershing Street and St. Charles Avenue is where Touro Synagogue is located. My friend Aizaz Ahmad and I decided it would be a smart idea to carpool to Touro Synagogue. We made it to Touro Synagogue around 5:50 p.m. in order to get good seats and to sit with our classmates. The service lasted for an hour and ten minutes. The crowd on this night was mainly regular members of the synagogue, the cantor, the rabbis, my classmates, and our instructor from my Introduction to Biblical Studies class. First, I thought of some of my basic personal values. Ever since I was a little boy I attended mass regularly in order to maintain my relationship with God while also becoming a better person because of Him. It is through this active participation that I found connections between the Jewish religion and my religion. This spiritual experience is significant to me because even though we differ in religion, we all came together as a family to rejoice and worship in our Lord to better each other. Also, it was significant because this was my first time getting out of my comfort zone. However, the audience, rabbis, and cantor made this transition very comfortable for me. They greeted our class as if we were usual members just attending another service when in reality it was our first Jewish service. This kind deed is very similar to Christian teaching because everyone is taught to spread the good word and to welcome everyone and anyone. My experience at Touro Synagogue is definitely something remarkable because it has taught me to be grateful for different religions and their services while also restoring my relationship with
