“A little rebellion now and then is a good thing” is an important quote from Thomas Jefferson about the American Revolution. From the Townshend and Stamp acts to the Battle of Bunker Hill, there were three main causes of the American Revolution: The Proclamation of 1763, Townshend and Stamp Acts, and the Battle of Bunker Hill. The first main cause of the American Revolution was the Proclamation of 1763. It created a line that kept the colonist east of the Appalachian Mountains. The law was enabled on October 9, 1763, by the British. The British were in debt from the French and Indian war and needed more money to pay off the debt. In doing so, King George III, hoped to placate the Native Americans who had recently concluded the Seven Years War. Pontiac's rebellion plays a large role in the Proclamation of 1763. Pontiac's Rebellion was a group of Indians who came together to conquer the forts in the colonies. The British made the Proclamation to keep the Indians west. They also made the law, that the indians may only trade with the British, for money, and to keep them out of the Americans. The British made taxes on many items. The Townshend acts taxed lead, glass, paint, tea and many more items from Britain. The stamp act taxed newspapers, books, legal documents, ships, cargo, playing cards and lastly, dice. The British did this because of their lack of money. They needed money for weapons and soldiers. Also, they did this for power. They wanted to show the colonists who was in charge, so by doing so they showed they have power. King George III, signed these acts, and made the acts towards the British colonies. These acts made the British colonies feel as if they were prisoners, not people of Britain. For this reason, I think this brought the American Revolution
