In short, the author is summoning many facts and statistics to establish a strong logical appeal, but is failing to structurally connect these points, clearly deliver her argument to the audience, or effectively utilize the format of a visual essay to her convenience. This is why I believe that “Apples to Oranges” is ineffective in persuading its intended audience. The first impression that I felt as a reader after reading this essay was confusion. Gladwell champions his argument by introducing and breaking down his ideas meaningful counterarguments.

She addresses the issue of desiring to become a women too soon. Hanes develops her article by using the literary techniques of pathos and logos to describe the emotions young girls feel when they see images of women with unattainable features.

The Disney movie also helps children establish an explanation about relationships. This guides kids to discover how society defines relationships.
Psychology is defined as “the scientific study of the mind and behavior” (Introduction to Psychology, 2015). Psychology provides an overview of biology and behavior, sensation and perception, learning, memory, intelligence, language, motivation, emotion, abnormal psychology, and therapy (PSY 102 Course Syllabus, 2018, pg 1). Because psychology allows for a better understanding of how the mind and body work, this knowledge can be beneficial for any field of study or career. The theoretical and practical understanding of the basics of psychology can help with decision-making, critical thinking, stress management, time management, better understanding of others, improving communication, and even achieving goals and objectives, all components that allow someone to be more successful throughout their life.
