To fix the problem that standardized testing has started, there should be something other than testing to focus on. While testing can be beneficial in some ways, it is way too much of a focus in education today. Critical thinking should be focused on more in schools rather than testing, because it will prepare students for future problems. Critical thinking is more about the process used to find the answer rather than the answer itself. Standardized testing has become a problem because it causes students to memorize things rather than use a process to find an answer. Integrating critical thinking into the education system will encourage students to think more about how they find an answer. Knowing the process allows students to have less of a struggle on questions where they do not have an answer memorized. …show more content…

An elementary school teacher, Mary Baise agrees that standardized testing is focused on too much and there is not enough focus on learning life skills. (M. Baise, personal communication, March 09, 2018). She is one of many school teachers that think the focus on testing is too much. Baise mentioned the advantages of critical thinking by saying that critical thinking helps with problem solving which is something that is helpful to have the skills for in the real world. (M. Baise, personal communication, March 09, 2018). This is helpful and relevant insight into the situation because it involves someone who is currently employed in the education
