Trainee zoo keeper:

Main duties/responsibilities:
Observe and record what the animals behavior is like and what they are doing through observation.
Undertake husbandry routine tasks like cleaning out the enclosure, feeding and observing the animals for any possible illnesses
Creating environmental enrichments. (such as food put inside blocks which are hanging up in the trees or putting insects inside logs in the enclosures.
Help with any veterinary treatment/medications if needed.
Check the enclosure for anything that should not be in there or that any of the furniture inside the enclosure can hurt the animals.

Qualifications: you will need to go to university to get a level 3 diploma or a degree in veterinary nursing, by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
For the level 3 diploma you will need to do work placements at a veterinary practice.
To get onto the course you will need a minimum of two A levels. (preferably one biology and the other another type of science) you can also get 5 GCSEs between the grades of an A*-C. However they must include English, maths and science. So you can get into one of the courses.

Career pathways: going to university= is good because it will qualify you and give you a good knowledge of the animals and medications. However it is bad because it will cost a lot of money to do and will possibly lead you into student loans.
Doing work placed training= this is good because it is has a lot of practical work and not much written and it will give you on the job training on how to be one by being inside the environment. However you may not get taught as much as what you would in the university and maybe you might be better at doing the university option as it will provide you with more
