Transformation takes part in us no matter what choices we take in life and is vital for every person. These changes and challenges are what shapes who we are and how we react to everyday life and is a necessity for the development of ourselves. Transformation ultimately leads to a better life and is an absolute need in everyone's life. Transformation can take part whether wanted or unknowingly pushed upon us forcing us to react to the change. Change in yourself should be welcomed rather than despised. Amir from the thrilling novel 'The Kite Runner' by Khaled Hosseini and David from the disturbing short film ‘Donkey' created by Keir Burrows relates to this idea strongly. The two protagonists both face vital transformations that end up being positive for themselves and the people around them. Amir watching his best friend get raped and Dave knowingly letting his school friend being bullied triggers these two boys into a major transformation to right their wrongs. These two traumatic key events cause them to learn from their mistakes and transform into better people who look for a better future. For Amir, transformations in his life lead him away from the path of greed, jealousy and ignorance turning him into the type of man that would risk his life for someone else and stand up for himself and others. The ghastly short film ‘Donkey’ depicts the harsh effects on transformation through this idea of being a bystander in these horrid situations. As Dave secretly watches his mentally impaired mate get bullied, he changes as a person for the worse, even at times joining in the laughter. Dave shares this type of cowardice with Amir, being unable to find themselves standing up for people close to him. Both protagonists share the title of being selfish cowards during their child/teenage-hood in dire need for a transformation away from this self-destructive
