Intense sports like football are very famous, but might be too dangerous. Football has the largest percentage of all sports that have injured members almost every time. Football is an American sport known for tackles, but it causes injuries from head to head impact and causes medical care. Football is a very famous sport, causes damage like concussions and C.T.E. (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy). Football and other intense sports causes concussions to happen, which causes brain damage.
Football is the most watched sport in America (Paulsen, 2016). Football is also a very dangerous sport and a large number of injuries occur in the National Football League each year. Will Shields, a former National Football League player once said, “Football is a violent game. We are violent men” (“Will Shields Quotes”, n.d.). More than two hundred concussions alone occurred in the National Football League last year (Mukherjee, 2017).
Football: A Popular sport among all americans played, from toddlers to adults. Although it might be fun and games, football is the leading cause of deaths of thousands of players from brain injuries such as concussions. Due to large amount of brain development issues, highschool football should not be played. Many cases of brain damage due to concussions at such a young age can cause young children to lose focus in school.
One huge example of this neglect to watch out for their players is displayed through the New York Jets’ wide receiver Wayne Chrebet. Chrebet was knocked out cold, yet the Jets’ team doctor still sent him back into the game to play. In the first 10 day prior to a concussion, athletes are at a much higher risk of developing another concussion; however, instead of allowing players to recover, the NFL send players directly into the line of fire after they have already been shot down. This failure to help provide more adequate preventive measures has caused an increase of the number of concussions per year and continues to wreak havoc on players lives prior to their time playing in the NFL.
The NFL and the Concussions Crisis For the past two decades, the world of contact sports, particularly American football, became controversial because of the increasing attention focused on the long-term consequences of concussions. This issue would enter a tug-of-war battle between business politics and scientific evidence. The scientific evidence on the long-term detrimental effects of concussions implies that football may be too dangerous for any individual. It is only logical that the National Football League (NFL) would protect the integrity of football and everything it encompasses.
I. Introduction A. Attention Graber: For many people there is nothing better on a crisp cool Sunday afternoon, than sitting down and enjoying a good football game. The NFL, hosts usually the football games people watch. Recently, however the NFL has had a huge conflict on its hands regarding player health and safety, specifically regarding repeated head injury and concussions. Research indicates, the NFL has not done enough to protect its players from the damage of repeated head injury B. Ethos Statement:
Have you ever thought that a sport is too dangerous, but others think it isn’t too dangerous. Football has too many long-term effects, facts that people may not know about football, and after you get a concussion, it is more common for you to get many more concussions after the first one. Therefore, football is too dangerous for these following reasons. First, there are too many long term effects in football. Concussions may be short, but if you have a lot of concussions it could cause you to kill yourself.
Hard workers get paid less and less while NFL players get paid more every year. Secondly, the risk of getting an injury in the NFL is significantly higher compared to other sports. In agreement with the National Library of Medicine, “Injury incidence is higher in football than in any other sport.” This proves my point that you are more likely to get injured in football than in any other sport. Sports medicine states, “ [...] traumatic injuries such as concussions are most common... knee injuries in football are most common too.”
Football is the most American of all of the sports we play. We have good memories of playing catch and watching games with our friends, however, there is a darker side to this all-American sport, the damage done to the brains of the players. While the NFL has attempted to make great strides in preventing further damage to players on the field suffering from concussions, the rates of concussions continue to rise. In 2014, 206 concussions were diagnosed, while in 2015, that number rose to 271 concussions. If these new regulations truly had an effect upon the safety of the players, we would instead see little growth, if not a decline, of diagnosed concussions.
Couches tell the player to not leed with there head because you can get a concussion they tell them to hit with there shoulder pads if all football players follow this rul people will not get concussions. Head Injuries In American Football Since the beginning of American football, concussions have been a big problem with players in high school, college, and the National Football League. Concussions have led to the end of many players football careers and in some cases, their lives. People that are in college and the NFL continue, playing even though they are risking their lives just for a little fame. Today football players play the game to make money and just because of their love for the sport.
Concussions In Football Concussions - what are they? How do they happen? Why is it so important to try and prevent them? Concussions are becoming a huge issue in today’s world of football due to the problems that come along with them. When a player suffers a concussion, their brain is brutally shaken and bounced off of the walls of the athlete’s skull.
People think banning football would decrease the amount of head injuries, “Characterized by hard tackles and intense speeds, the sport is conducive to a number of serious injuries, but there is one that has received a substantial amount of attention: mild traumatic brain injury and concussions” (Grush). Injuries can be prevented by the coaches focusing more on tackling the right way to anticipate injuries having to do with not doing it the right way. Also, most deaths having to do with football do not have to do with concussions, but with heat strokes. This can be prevented by pushing back the practicing season for football. Another thing, kids and parents know what they are getting into with the dangers and all, but they sign up anyway.
Football Injuries Football injuries are very common they are also known to ruin football careers. Many football players have been injured very badly from playing football and their careers have been ruined. Football is a very dangerous sport and is very harmful to a human being. There are many types of injuries some are: Anterior and Posterior cruciate ligament there are injuries in the meniscus and also Hamstring pulls. There are some common injuries also like: injuries in the knee also concussions and injuries in the hip, arm and shoulder.
It is all up to the players to hop aboard onto the safer track. I asked an NFL player that plays tight end for the 49ers if he was aware of the risks he was taking while playing, and his response was, “I am very aware of the risk I am taking when I am playing football” (George Kittle). Every person playing sports knows what they are doing can be dangerous, and that goes for about every sport. This shows you from a pro football players view that he’s aware of the risk, but he is willing to take the risk. Therefore sports should remain how they are because the risks are known by the people
