The main characters in the novels, Mare’s War by Tanita S. Davis and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares both evolved by the end of the novel. Octavia from Mare’s War and Tibby from The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, both looked past others exterior and judged them by their insides. During Mare’s War Mare Octavia's grandma shares her stories about being a Women Army Corps (WAC) during WWII. Throughout The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, over time, Tibby sees something special about Bailey. The two novels are two completely different genres and types of novels but in the end their characters are very alike. In addition, Octavia and Tibby judged someone but, by the end of the novel they respected the person even more. In the start of the books the characters both did not want anything to do with the person. Octavia and her sister went on a road trip with Mare for the whole summer, which they were made to go on. On the long days on the road Mare told them about her life in WWII as a WAC and from those stories Octavia and her sister realized that their grandma is actually an impressive, courageous, fighter. Mare stood up for segregation and women’s rights. By the end of the summer, Octavia looked past Mares long nails and stiletto shoes, and payed attention to her characteristics. Like Octavia, Tibby gained more respect for Tibby once she got to know her. Tibby first met Bailey at Wallman’s were Tibby worked, since Bailey passed out and Tibby rode with her in the ambulance.
