The Treaty of Versailles was enforced after WW1 as a peace settlement between the Allies and Germany. Germany wasn’t happy with the treaty but had no choice but to sign it. The treaty stated that Germany had to take the blame for WW1 as well as a number of other conditions that left a big impact.
One of the conditions that the Germans had to agree to was to pay reparations to the damage France and Britain endured by ww1. After the First World War, Germany was already struggling financially, as were many other countries. Then the Great Depression hit and it got much, much worse. Due to poor choices made by the Weimar Republic, Germany’s political system after ww1, Germany suffered from hyperinflation leaving people without jobs and starving.
