Organized labor, defined as the association of workers of trade or industry for the purpose of assuring or obtaining improvements in working conditions through a collective action, has had a significant role in American history. Labor unions started in the late 19th to 20th centuries as way to promote job security, safety in conditions, and fair wages and remain around to this day to protect workers of trade industries. In modern day, the changing of federal administration calls for the changing of current policies due to differences in party and politics. My belief is that although he has made statements supporting unions, he will inevitably support what benefits him, his businesses, his family, and his friends and their businesses and will make policies to better big businesses which will directly also negatively impact unions. The uncertainty that Trump has caused for the public due to his wavering stances on unions is something I can only see as a bad thing as it allows for fear and anxiety for those in unions. All of his decisions and opinions so far show that he is not out to support unions and has made calls such as choosing Puzder for the roll of secretary of the Department of Labor that are against what unions advocate for and what unions want for themselves. I am fearful of the impact that Trump’s policies will create because of his minimal support for unions, pro-business outlook, wavering opinions on topics important to the security of unions, and his history so far of repealing a fair amount of the policies put in place by the Obama administration. Because of all of these factors and his past actions, I believe the impact that Trump’s new administration will negatively impact worker’s conditions, worker’s pay, and worker’s rights due to repeals of orders already in place to protect these factors essential to the success and continuation of organized
