In the ever changing world of politics, the effect of political change on citizens is often overwhelming. In a Time’s article called “The Silver Lining of Donald Trump’s Refugee Ban”, Qasim Rashid explains how Trump’s refugee ban has only increased support for American Muslims while a large number of people would only look at the negative side of the ban. Although Rashid is firmly against Trump’s Muslim ban, he uses a very effective sarcastic tone with a repetitive set of words such as “I thank him [Donald Trump]” (Rashid, 2017) to convey his message to the reader. However, it is evident that the author is very aggressive and tense about the subject. Rashid intended to show a positive side to Trump’s refugee ban and expose Trump’s foolish ideology which was presented successfully to the reader.

His sarcasm is evident in the first paragraph of the article when he says “but I can’t help but thank President Trump” (Rashid, 2017). His tone of sarcasm continues throughout the article, this can be seen when he found historical evidence against Trump and his pathetic ideology in the second paragraph, “This is probably just a bigly coincidence” (Rashid, 2017). Furthermore, Rashid uses a repetitive set of words to emphasize his hatred towards Donald Trump. This is evident in paragraphs two, three, four and eight where he starts off the paragraph by stating, (sarcastically of course) “I thank him [Donald Trump]” (Rashid, 2017). Although Rashid uses these words to emphasize his hatred, he also uses them as a mean of transition between his paragraphs. Furthermore, the repetition of these words create some kind of sympathy on the reader. The conclusion pulls the reading together by summing up the article in a positive and hopeful note that is strongly related to the main argument of the
