Although Katherine Dettwyler was an American, she was very understanding and wanted to do all she could to focus on the health issues facing the Bambara. Through cultural relativism, Dettwyler was able to understand Malian culture and answer her research questions. She becomes highly emotional, trying to find methods of staying calm during her buried state of doom, but then time again it would soon come back to her that she would not be able to handle the situation that she is currently in. Possibilities of rescue are highly low, Detectives Ben gray and the others are unable to find any clues after interviewing any possible suspects in the past 24 hours.
War is not something that occurs in one’s life and goes away. It is something that leaves a permanent track on the people that undergo it, which can sometimes negatively alter the way someone acts. Louie Zamperini and Mutsuhiro Watanabe are examples of people who have been affected by the war, causing them to act differently them what they used to. In Unbroken, Laura Hillenbrand displays the true stories of soldiers, showing that war is an extreme event that can sometimes bring out the worst in people. Louie Zamperini is one example of how the war unfavorably affected how he acted.
In the first chapter of Credibility How Leaders Gain and Lose It Why People Demand It, Beth Bremner discusses how she was ashamed of telling people where she worked because the management at her previous place of employment did not share her values of truthfulness and integrity. She continues to explain that she desired to work for a business that shared the same values, beliefs, objectives, and visions as she did. The authors, James M. Kouzes and Barry Z. Posner, discuss how many people are motivated and strive for the same aspirations as Beth. These are the factors that play a major role in increasing employee motivation on the job. While management was once determined by status and privilege, this is no longer the case.
The Olympic athlete Gail Devers once said, “Sometimes we fall, sometimes we stumble, but we can’t stay down. We can’t allow life to beat us down. Everything happens for a reason, and it builds character in us, and it tells us what we are about and how strong we really are when we think we could be that strong.” In Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, Louis Zamperini demonstrated Devers’ words with the utmost determination when, even life was rearing its ugly head, Louis never gave up hope and survived being stranded in the Pacific for 47 days. In all, Louie’s determination was one of his greatest virtues and his life saving quality that Hillenbrand described in his story.
Children all around the world are forced to grow up too quickly because of their life situations. Katherine Boo in “Behind the Beautiful Forevers”, does a good job explaining the struggles of a young teenager named Abdul. Doris Pilkington in Rabbit Proof fence, explains the challenges an aboriginal teenager named Kundila. In Behind the Beautiful Forevers, Katherine Boo is more successful in conveying the challenges faced by the main character. Katherine Boo does a very well job using action to convey the challenges that Abdul faces.
Former first lady and politician Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “People grow through experience if they meet life honestly and courageously. This is how character is built.” In Laura Hillenbrand’s Unbroken biography, Louis Zamperini showed great leadership when trying to keep himself and his remaining crew members alive while stranded in the Pacific for 47 days. Inspiring audiences, Hillenbrand highlights Louis's leadership skills that reunited himself and others with their families after the war.
On March 9th, I went to the convocation event titled “Representations of Women and Children in the Bible and the Ancient Near East,” lead by Kristine Garroway. This lecture provided an insight on the women and children in the Bible. Garroway started off by saying that this type of emphasis is a new and growing field that is just beginning to be explored. She labeled it two ways: Child-Centered Interpretation and Childist theory. This theory’s intent is to find the silent voice by reinterpreting previous findings of Israel.

Katherine Johnson NASA mathematician Intelligence, hard working, and fighter are three characteristics of Katherine Johnson. Many people know that Katherine Johnson was a huge help in the space race that sent John Glenn to space, but she was so much more. As a well known NASA mathematician, Katherine Johnson showed America that African-American women could do the same as men could. She left a lasting legacy by helping other people that African-American women could be just like a man and have the same job as them.
Since I worked with these students for an extended period of time, I was able to build a relationship with them that went beyond that of what some of the other tutors. It seemed like there was a bond of trust. The relationship was very similar to that of the children in my classroom. The 18 children in my classroom at work are more than just my students; they are a part of me.
