Plagiarism As a student of Walden University, I am expected and held accountable for the integrity of any work that I write and submit. Walden University’s code of conduct on academic integrity states, “A student who enrolls at the university thereby agrees to respect and acknowledge the research and ideas of others in his or her work and to abide by those regulations governing work stipulated by the academic unit or academic program, and, in turn, the instructor” (Walden University, 2014). The first violation of academic integrity is plagiarism. According to Walden University (2014), “plagiarism is defined as use of intellectual material produced by another person without acknowledging its source.”
I agree with the Marymount’s Academic Integrity Policy and procedures. The Office of Student Conduct and Academic Integrity has set up rules and procedures that is fair and “balances the needs of the individual students with the needs of the Marymount University community,” (Marymount University Community Standards). There are four principles used to make sure their goal for the students and the community is achieved. And they are: prevention, intervention, hard reduction and retention. Prevention is about educating the students about the standards at Marymount University before the matter in question takes place.
Proctor exams have been implemented at universities all around the world. A proctor is usually an adult who supervises you when you are taking any type of test. According to the University catalog (2015), you are required to take many final exams that require a proctor. They must be least 21 years old, willing to comply with polices and procedures, have an internet connection, and cannot be related to the student. During the exams, the proctor must be present at all times.
With consistent discussions and reminders of the consequences of cheating, it would become clearer to students both the repercussions of academic dishonesty, but also set an important social precedent around cheating. Additionally, it has been observed at school with honor codes that as more people in a school are honest, an honor code will amplify these positive traits and create a feedback loop where the expectation of being caught is higher and students are less likely to cheat (Source
Academic Integrity Academic integrity is the moral code and ethical policy of academia (http://wikipedia.org. August 27, 2017). Plagiarism is part of the moral and ethical policy. It is not right to take someone else's words and use them as your own.
Matthew Truong A09941133 “This paper has been prepared in accordance with the Academic Senate Policy on Integrity of Scholarship.” -Signed Electronically Neo-Legalism According to the historical context in “A Source Book in Chinese Philosophy,” translated and compiled by Wing-Tsit Chan, China experienced the most change in the twentieth century compared to any other periods in its history (Chan, p. ix). “If one word could be used to characterize the entire history of ancient Chinese philosophy, that word would be humanism — not the humanism that denies or slights a Supreme Power, but one that professes the unity of man and Heaven” (Chan, p. 03). If one name could be used to represent the origin of all ancient Chinese
Unlike High School if caught cheating the student doesn’t just receive a failing grade on the assignment and receive detention. Students fail the entire class, possible suspension or explosion. Depending on the college you are attending and their rules and consequences vary, in Jan Archer’s article “The Effects on Students Who Get Caught Cheating in College” it is explained that if caught cheating it goes onto your permanent record.
Summary of “Academic Integrity” by Arden Miller and Adena D. Young-Jones Which one do you believe cheats more in schools, an online course or a face to face course? Arden Miller and Adena Young-Jones did an article over which one tended to be worse when they found results that were kind of shocking. Of course you expect an online course to cheat more but that was not the case. The results really varied on who the person was, sexuality, age, and other personalities of a person. Arden and Adena, both took surveys of “639 students in both types of classes.
The word integrity has a meaning that says honesty, strong moral principles. The word academic meaning education. Just putting the two words together means values and standards that are honest. This is what we as students, professionals, and people of substance must be always. We are living in a world where there are so many modern technological advances in machinery, computers, etc.
Dishonesty harms us and harms others as well. Being honest at school is by choosing not to cheat in any way.
The consequences for the students are as follow: Student 1: He will received the highest consequence of all. The result of his action would be receiving an "F" for the class and not been allowed to register for at least one semester. This consequence is due to the lack of integrity the student displayed. According to Walden, Academic Integrity, section 5, Cheating, "Allowing others to do an assignment or portion of an assignment, including the use of a commercial term paper is consider cheating"(Walden).
This essay explores that various sides of cheating such as buying a paper off the internet, copying and pasting information from outside sources, or simply copying a roommate's homework. Within the essay, many points about piracy of information are made. The first point made includes that access to internet is substantial reason behind why intellectual theft has become more rampant. Teachers and administrators argue for educating the suspects and criminals of cheating and its effects. Finally, Devlin introduces that idea that students could sign an honor code that states that students will properly cite all sources and preserve intellectual integrity along with them having to take courses that show them how to properly
Introduction Academic Integrity is an essential component of third level education because it is the fundamental building block in which we derive our professional ethics and integrity from. It sets a pattern for life long integrity in all areas of life. Our job as students is to construct knowledge honestly and fairly. A culture of honesty earns a great deal of respect. Integrity is fundamental to everything we do in college, I don’t think we can have genuine learning without integrity.
بین این دو مورد باید به موارد دیگر هم اشاره شود Marsden (2003) also referred to around 200 studies done on different types of academic dishonesty in the past 75 years. Talking about plagiarism, it is very important to know that plagiarism is a complex issue about which there are many uncertainties and the line between acceptable and unacceptable is difficult to trace (Henriksson, 2008). It is an elusive concept treated differently in different contexts (Angélil-Carter, 2000). Relatively no universally agreed definition is shared among the researchers; the institutions develop their own definitions and the individuals interpret it differently in their applications (Neville, 2007; Colin, 2007; Leak, 2006).
One of the most crucial traits a scholar can develop is a high level of self-efficacy which is essential to academic success. The ability to achieve and to recognize that success can come from being industrious should be the deterring factor for a student who considers committing the act of plagiarism. What is plagiarism one might ask? Voelker, Love & Pentina (2012) define plagiarism as, “putting forward another’s work as your own” (p. 37). This very pervasive problem plagues the education system, and many researchers and psychologist seek to explain the driving force behind students’ academic dishonesty.
