Try On The Shoes Before Promoting Them Disregarding the fact that Rachel Dolezal, former CEO of NAACP, was dishonest with her racial identity, I believe there is no reason she should have stepped down from her position. I understand how controversial the discussion of race is among culture. The fact that the black community were so offended, shows how little we have come to reach racial equality. It is recognized, why black individuals might feel insulted by someone associating with their racial pigment and even their past history that they have overcome. It is okay for people to feel indifferent but at the same time if we are attempting to alter racism how will that happen if we don’t try to move on from our differences? Meaning that as a society we have formed the margins of what race consists of. Rachel Dolezal worked hard to raise awareness about racial concerns. If we were more mindful of how race was constructed we wouldn’t be so critical to judge Dolezal. I don’t believe Dolezal’s contributions should be discredited on a personal level or for the NAACP organization either. When activist stand up for poverty, mental illness, or educational justice, their opinions and thoughts aren’t questioned or disapproved. People appreciate other’s who voice for what is right whether it is directly related to them or not. Dolezal was trying to make a difference, and wasn’t ridiculing the African American race, but promoting for positive changes. I do not agree with those who are arguing that by being white and disguising as black is an advantage for Dolezal. First off, no one was aware of her racial identity through out the duration of her work, besides the exception of her parents. She did not switch back and forth from racial identity’s to obtain any additional benefits. If anything Dolezal may have experienced racism from a first degree. She could most likely promote racial awareness more accurately by pretending to be black, then if she remained white, and failed to experience a black individuals point of
