The Use of Rhetorical Strategy in Television Advertisement
TV commercials are a large part of modern advertising, and they use a variety of rhetorical strategies to promote products. Rhetorical analysis is a process of examining and interpreting a rhetorical situation to understand how it works and to evaluate its effectiveness in achieving its purpose. There are three main types of rhetorical analysis: logos, pathos, and ethos. Logos refers to the use of reason and logic in a text. The product being advertised is the alternative to regular Pepsi, the zero sugar kind, and this should be addressed in the commercial. This is one of the best selling points of the zero sugar soda because of the fact that it is zero calories and some think it is healthier than regular highly-sugary soda. Pepsi Zero Sugar has zero calories, zero grams of carbohydrates, zero grams of sugar, and zero grams of fat.” This shows that Pepsi Zero Sugar has no sugar or carbohydrates while regular pepsi has a combined 80 grams in a single can. Although, Pepsi Zero Sugar also contains aspartame, an artificial sweetener, while regular Pepsi does not. Some people may prefer to avoid aspartame due to potential health risks.
