Solomon Northup’s “Twelve Years a Slave” is a narrative about how he was kidnapped from his home and sold into slavery for twelve years. It describes the brutalities and the psychological torture he had to endure. Northup narrates his own life story and the life and conditions of being a slave. This book is a 4.5 on a 5 point scale, 5 being the best. This book is detailed and uncensored. It did not feel like it was made up or embellished, any of that. It forces the reader confront the truth, no sugarcoating, no PG-13. It is straight to the point, raw and uncensored. This book provokes many emotions. One of those emotions, is guilt.
