CNN is constantly adapting to the ever-changing world of news. Through extensive use of different social media outlets and new technologies the roles of the news anchors are being effected constantly. New technologies and social media outlets such as; Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. prepare news anchors for broadcasting by allowing them to receive stories in a speedy manner and improve the process of identifying stories that are newsworthy. Based on interviews conducted, scholarly journals, and Internet articles, my sources support the idea that different social media networks and new technologies influence the role of news anchors today. From live tweets broadcasted on the news station, to many different posts made on their Facebook and Instagram account, CNN uses social media to help publicize their company and connect with their audience. According to an Internet article by Marsha Friedman titled "How Do Mainstream Media Use Social Media", many anchors and reporters use social media for feedback from their viewers. Freidman discussed how CNN's Anderson Cooper asks his viewers to connect with him through his Twitter and Facebook. CNN's employee, Brianne Buck, states, "Social media boosts our ratings for the anchors here and the CNN news station in general." She continued to explain how the use of the infamous "hashtag" has helped CNN to connect and relate to social media users today. While walking around the CNN Center located in Atlanta, Georgia, I noticed an enormous hashtag sculpture that stood in the middle of the room glistening. As I continued to walk around and explore the building, I stumbled across a very interesting machine. On the machine were three giant eggs and in front of the eggs was a screen labeled "Twitter Nest." The Twitter Nest displayed different tweets tweeted from CNN's, HLN's, and the Daily Share's twitter page.
