The Cold War was a time of fear in the world. World War II had just ended and the nations should have learned their lessons and the consequences that result from war. Though everything should have been peaceful, this was not the case in actuality. The US feared communist states such as the Soviet Union, and China, while they feared democracy. The sides were split and wanted to abolish the other's government in fear that their country would soon become like the other. Both sides had a strong hatred toward each other but didn’t take it out with physical war. Both sides possessed nuclear weapons and they had the capability of blowing each other up.
