The world is filled with stressors. These stressors can create conflict. It is important to understand the stressors. The two types of stress are personal and relationship. Personal stress refers to the struggle that occurs within the individual. A low level of personal stress is welcomed as it can be pleasurable. Good pleasurable stress can be created when falling in love or during a high intensity sporting event. The unwanted stress is that which creates frustration, elevated levels of anxiety, and anger. Another form of stress is relationship stress. This occurs when elements outside of person are present. Lesser amounts of relationship stress are normal, but larger doses can create conflict (Cahn & Abigail, 2014, pg. 47). What type of conflict is engaged? Along with stress comes conflict. There are several different theories related to why conflict occurs. I am subject to both relationship stress and personal stress daily. Working from home in front a computer has put some strain on the body, poor posture has not helped the situation. Unfortunately, a dysfunctional conflict approach occurs most often. Confrontation avoidance and accommodation is one the common dysfunctional conflict cycles. This occurs when the conflict is avoided. One is usually quick to withdrawal from the situation of accommodate (Cahn & Abigail, 2014, pg. 33-34). Most often the reward is not worth the battle. To some level the battles are chosen wisely. Now the text would lead to believe that individuals who do this are the type to let others walk all over them. Another trait is indecisiveness (Cahn & Abigail, 2014, pg. 34). The indecisiveness is somewhat true of my personality, but being walked on is far from the truth.
