‘2 Weeks with the Queen’ is a novel by Morris Gleitzman and is about a young boy called Colin, who is desperately trying to cure his younger brother of cancer. During this book Colin had to leave Australia and travel to England to live with his cousin, Alistair, for a while. Both of the boys started off as very immature and naïve characters but due to the people and situations they met throughout the novel, each of their personalities and views on life changed for the better.
Colin started off as a young twelve year old boy who was adventurous and energetic, but he was also full of jealousy and envy. He hated his brother, Luke, for getting all of his parents’ attention and was constantly wishing and fantasying about what it would be like to be the centre of his parents’ universe. …show more content…

He tried to console as well as convince both his parents and himself that Luke was in no danger but failed miserably. His parents’ lives eventually became fully consumed with thoughts of his sick brother and so, they made the decision to ship him off to England. This action, however, did not make Colin give up on his dream, it only drove him further into an unrealistic world where he was the hero and the cure for cancer was in reach.
A change in Colin’s personality began to occur after attempting and failing many impossible missions to cure his brother. He started to feel disheartened and alone in the foreign country he was in. Countless thoughts about his brother and worried parents filled his mind but were soon pushed aside when he met a man named Ted.
