50% of Qataris are Diabetics

Diabetes is a worldwide disease, which could be a cause of amputations, blindness and death. “About 53.2 percent of Qatari women and 46.8 percent of Qatari men have the disease” and the number is increasing. It is sad and disturbing that half of Qatari citizens have diabetes. There are many causes of diabetes, the most common ones could be genetics, consanguineous marriages and obesity.

The genes that make up the way you look do not define you, therefore diabetes should not. Type 1 diabetes could be caused by genetics passed through the parents. Type 1 diabetes could also be caused by consanguineous marriages. When close blood relatives get married they put their children at risk of many genetic diseases, and one of the diseases is type 1 diabetes. Some people think that marriage between relatives is somewhat inhumane, and do not agree with it; Even though family pre arranged marriages are cultural. The reason why most Qataris follow a bad diet; because of their traditional fatty meals. Also the freedom that parents give their children to eat what ever they want. Myself I had this freedom, and for 12 year old I could not resist to order the advertised meal. My judgment was persuaded with mouth-watering commercials that snuck the S in “Fast Food.” Moreover Qatari people find exercising difficult because of the flaming weather.
