. Who are the Pima Indians? Describe their history. The Pima Indians have lived in southern Arizona for at least the past 2,000 years. Today they live in the Gila River Indian Community. They refer to themselves as “O’Odham”, the River people and they intermarried with “Tohono O’Odham”, the Desert people. The Pima Indians descended from the Hohokam, who was prehistoric people that originated in Mexico. The Pima Indians were great at weaving and farming. After their people migrated from Mexico to what is now Arizona, they came up with a great system of irrigation. Today the Pima Indians are still good with agriculture and farming.
