The novel Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is a portrayal of a community of animals that rebel against their tyrant/owner, Mr. Jones (Orwell 28-31). They set out hoping to create a society of peace and equality (Orwell 28-31). Consequently, they end up making a tyranny that was almost worse than before (Orwell 136-138). Sound familiar? Animal Farm is a literary imitation of important communist countries. It especially imitates the story of early communist Russia. It can also be related to new communist countries of the world today such as North Korea. The aspects of this book relate to communist countries in every way. One ongoing theme in animal is tyranny. The citizens of the country have a lot to do with it. The animals in the book represent different types of citizens. For instance, Mollie (Orwell 27). She represents those who are very self-centered and materialistic (Orwell 41). These people, like her, care nothing for politics or justice, give no resistance to dictators and tyrants. Boxer represents those who blindly follow a ruler, and are dependent on slogans (I will work harder, Napoleon is always right, etc) (Orwell 70). These slogans prevent these people from examining their leader and the situation. For instance Trump supporters are too busy chanting "Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump," or "Lock her up, Lock her up," to realize that he has been or charged with sexual assault or that he doesn't completely understand his job as president (Cooper 1). Benjamin represents those people who know the facts and what could happen, and do nothing about (Orwell 65). All they do is complain and be cynical instead of trying to make a change (Orwell 65). These types of citizens help the tyrants succeed. The animals in general represent the poor, hardworking people of America and the world. These people work extremely hard for little pay, while their leaders overlook their struggles. They represent what happens to citizens when they are ruled by a tyrant.
