Turning on the television to see my morning news to see how is the world doing. Gun violence, sexual assault allegation, pharmaceutical commercial about heartburn, and then there is the debate of climate change. Climate change is an issue that has been going on for the past decades. Whether the threat of climate change is real or it is a fictional statement that the Chinese made to decrease our economic productivity by our commander of chief. Ulrich Beck’s article about his view of climate change stated that the potential threat of climate change is real enough to alter the politics and perspective about our world across the globe. According to the author, metamorphosis is not about the complete change or transformation of an event, but it is about the changes based on the decisions and experiences that we go through during our lifetime as these changes shaped us our view and ourselves. For example, Beck’s second thesis he mentioned about climate change is creating existential moments of decision, and these decisions can impact us as mentioned in the previous paragraph. These decision can influence us in a long term as it will reflect on our future decisions and norms. In this thesis, he brings out the idea of metamorphosis again and re-enforced the idea about how climate change can be use to end war. “Climate change might in fact be used as an antidote to war. We are undergoing a transition from the threats emanating from the logic of war to those arising from the logic of global risks” (Beck). What is interesting about the example is how Beck tells about how climate change could potentially change our priorities, and enough to put the war conflicts aside to work together to face one common threat, the danger of losing our home. Another interesting point in the same thesis is about how people can be altruism in an apocalyptic scenario. Beck mentioned how people cannot help themselves unless they help others as it is about self interest or self survival. Perhaps the point can relate the idea metamorphosis since it re-enforces as people will change their value to help others and not themselves. This thought of selfless could be programed in our primal instinct to help out other to ensure our survival as a
