Others may argue that it is not as convenient or as timely as using your own vehicle. Planning out our schedules to fit the needs of public transportation can be time consuming and unrealistic. More people may believe that doing something so little, such as walking, can not have that big of an impact on the environment. Disagreeing with this idea, NASA’s article, “Reducing Emissions to Lessen Climate Change Would Yield Dramatic Health Benefits by 2030,” provides information educating readers that reducing emissions can improve human health and prevent economic losses. The article also mentions that “air pollution responds quickly,” so minimizing our emissions a little at a time can help resolve the air quality much quicker than we expect. After only a couple months we were in lockdown due to COVID-19 the air quality was noticeably better than before the pandemic. The solution is not to cut out all private transportation use, since that is not practical, but to be more cautious of what is necessary for travel, and what is not. Small steps of individual change can realistically impact the bigger picture.
