Can wanting something make us make uncharacteristic choices? Yes this is the case for Romeo and Juliet, by Shakespeare. In the play the characters make choices before they take time to think them through. Making choices this way can end up badly for themselves and those around them .

In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo states “I love the one who doesn't love me back”(shakespeare 6). This tells me that he really wants to both be in love and be loved. In the script Friar Lawrence says “Go wisely, and go slowly. Those who rush into things stumble”(shakespeare 28). This is to show that they were rushing into something that could cause some problems, because they were rushing into things that they wanted and not thinking about it. In response Romeo says “Tybalt, I love you for a reason that allows me to ignore the rage that I would normally feel in response to such a greeting. I am not the villain ”(Shakespeare 39) this quote shows that due to his love for Juliet he won't let the hate from Tybalt's comment get to him so that end up hurting Juilets beloved cousin. In the end he ends up hurting him anyway, but it was only done because he had killed Mercutio. In act 4 juliet takes a vial from friar lawrence, saying “To avoid marrying Paris I’d jump from the top of a tower; or walk down thief-infested alleys; or sit among a nest of serpents; or be chained up with wild bears; or be shut up every night in a crypt full of rattling bones…”(shakespeare 58). This quote is her saying that she would do anything, even dying, to avoid marrying Paris, and stay pure to her love, which follows, that if she didn't want to be with Romeo, she wouldn't have made this
