Tom is a man of character who stated that he often helped Mayella Ewell. He went out of his way for others but was a victim of of racism and was characterized by what the people in Maycomb said and thought of him Tom Robinson passed by Mayella’s house everyday to and from Mr. Link Deas field. He stopped and she spoke to him as a civilized person

Tom eventually convinces two female slaves to escape, but is beat to death soon after. The two escaped slaves end up telling their story to Mr. Shelby who the happen to end up on the same ship. It is then revealed that two slaves on the ship are related to Eliza and George and end up travelling to Canada, eventually being reunited with their whole family. Mr. Shelby returns home without Tom, devastated, he soon after grants all of his slaves freedom.

In The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald explores the difficulty to maintain a moral code while surrounded by corrupt people making immoral decisions. The modern idea of mans humanity towards others is also represented in the character Tom Buchanan and in many people that live in the East Egg. Buchanan is a example of the ignorance of the upper crust of society and their explanation for not following societies set rules. People like Tom Buchanan were raised on the foundation of an affluent lifestyle and the thought that they had superiority over others. Morality was not the main concern for Tom through his whole life.
Tom and George share a similar opinion on their attidudes toward women. Both Tom and George are vicious, Tom when he hits Myrtle, has a fight with Gatsby, and in the way that he approaches individuals he supposes are underneath him or that have wronged him somehow. He obviously was less similar to this until after he completed school where the hardness in him turned out to be more evident and he started effectively destroying individuals when conceivable. George additionally follows up on fierce driving forces and executes somebody out of the anger that he feels for being singled out by everybody including his better half. What is ironic about Tom’s statement is that he says he cares for Daisy so much but still continues you to run around with Myrtle. He sees Daisy and Myrtle at a lower stance than him, so he tends to treat them both with less respect. In this situation George is completely different than Tom. George wishes for a woman he can control and at some points he actually believes that he has that.

Tom was arrogant in his ways and put himself before others. Even though he claimed to be loyal to Daisy, he could not hide his mistress from everyone. Tom was a brute of a man and claimed to be part of a master race. His arrogance and neglection of Daisy and others end up getting him into trouble. Gatsby did everything out of love for Daisy and it was as if he had blinders on and could only see a future for himself with her in it.
Tom Robinson is a black man who is wrongfully convicted of raping a white girl, Mayella Ewell. This novel goes through Scout's life from when she was 6, till she is 9. She lives in the town of Maycomb Alabama, and lives an innocent life until about halfway through the story, where she begins to ask questions. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Scout shows the readers that racial inequality creates an unjust society through the African American community, through the people surrounding colored folks, and through Tom Robinson’s Case. The first example of the consequences of racial inequality is the African American community in Maycomb.
The term “Uncle Tom” shouldn’t have been treated as an insult. It is understandable why it was because Uncle Tom did defend his masters, refuse to kill Legree and forgave his killers, which some may see as him being weak and submissive to white people. However Uncle Tom was an honest, brave man and true Christian, “Tom is a noble hearted, faithful fellow” (Stowe, 34). He had faith and chose to see the best in people. He never complained or blamed others and his choices may have been frustrating but in no way was he a bad person.
He was giving of himself help. He was in no way harming anyone. Then when Bob Ewell came home and found Tom Robinson, he set out to ruin his life. Tom was innocently helping Mayella when Bob Ewell accused him of raping his daughter. The white people said Tom was guilty, killing Tom with their conviction before he even had a fair trial Tom’s is seen by very few of the characters in the book.
In “Uncle Tom’s Cabin’ there are many heroic qualities, but there is not one person who is a real hero. Many characters showed heroic behavior in this tale. I want you to note that even Stowe who was a black man does not behave as a black person, but instead, he showed a heroic model of behavior that should be appreciated by black and white people as well. And of course, Tom who presented more than a black hero, he was the author of transcending race.
Money, power, and success have blinded people into thinking they are in love and it has led to these women being oppressed. Tom and Gatsby in this book are what is called the patriarchy. According to Revise Sociology, the patriarchy is “The systematic domination of women by men in some or all of society’s spheres and institutions.” In Tom and Daisy’s marriage; they are both having an affair, Tom wasn’t at his child’s birth, and he oppresses Daisy physically, maybe by accident, and socially, by not allowing her to go wherever she wants to go. In Tom and Myrtle’s affair; they are both married, yet they have this affair, she is dependent on him because he oppresses her economically and psychologically, and he also oppresses her physically when he broke her nose.
