Slavery which is the main topic of this book was also the reason the civil war started with the Confederates supporting the act of slavery while the Union wasn't so happy about it. Then comes in political actions such as Abraham Lincoln issuing the emancipation proclamation proclaiming the abolition of slavery and salve could all live as a free human being.
The main cause of the American Civil War was slavery and its movement into the western territories of the country. Slavery brought up sectional and economic disagreements between the northern and southern states. In addition, it also brought up contrasting views of the constitution. The unfortunate era of slavery would cause The American Civil War.
In the decades before the Civil War began in 1861, many changes occurred. Many scholars say that the main cause of the Civil War was slavery and the divide it caused between the northern and southern states. There were many events that convinced Southern political leaders that the institution of slavery was under attack by the North. Both the debates over slavery and the importance of slavery changed in this period. These factors caused the southern states to secede and the war to begin.
The extract from ‘Uncle Tom’s Cabin’, written by Harriet Beecher Stowe in 1852, the abolitionists used many methods and reasons in Document B to stop slavery. As the abolitionists came from various different communities, including white anti-slavery, like Harriet Beecher Stowe, abolitionists argued that slavery had many harsh conditions. Therefore, slavery violated the natural rights of all people for equality. However, as the novel was a bestseller during the 1850’s, there must have been some considerable interest in the issue of slavery, due to some facts that were added to create a more entertaining story. Therefore, abolitionists used some kind of mass media to spread a message throughout the entire country, eventually reaching out to the
The second event that happens was the fugitive slave act; this law was passed as part of the compromise of 1850. The federal officials was forced to arrest any runaway slaves; if failure to do so, they were libel to pay a fine, this was the part that the south wanted to control the slaves, and force slavery on everybody. These events were important part that put the civil war in motion. The main part of the civil war was on the issue of slavery. The north was anti-slavery, and the south was pro-slavery.
Slavery was overall the direct cause of the Civil War. However, many events in the years leading up to the Civil War also contributed to its beginning. Unfair laws such as the Fugitive Slave Act and the Kansas-Nebraska Act contributed by infuriating the Northerners who were against slavery. The Dred Scott decision kept the Southerners happy, but angered the Northerners, furthering the divide between the North and the South. Two other events that led to the Civil War were John Brown’s Raid and the election of 1860, which angered the South.
Many in the North were outraged by the brutality of slavery, while the South complained of the lies being told about them through this book. This book furthered the division between the North and South and increased tensions. Another event that lead to the Civil War through slavery was John Brown’s raid, Brown was an extreme abolitionist who attempted to rally up slaves in Virginia to rebel against their owners. Although it was a failure, John Brown was known as a martyr for slavery and made others realize how serious of an issue slavery was. The final event that ultimately started the Civil War was Lincoln’s election.
And there’s no denying that the novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin had helped opposition to slavery come into the political mainstream in the North. So while it would be an exaggeration to say that Harriet Beecher Stowe’s novel directly caused the Civil War, there’s no doubt that Uncle Tom’s Cabin, by helping to shape public opinion in the 1850s, was indeed a factor leading to the war. The publication of Uncle Tom 's Cabin coupled with the offensive and invasive nature of the Fugitive Slave Act 1850, changed northerners so they could no longer view slavery with a disconnected view. Slavery was no longer a Southern issue that had no impact on the life of those in the north. I feel this is a strong point supporting the famous quote of little woman that started the Great
The book ‘Uncle Tom’s Cabin’ mainly talks about a story about a family is bankrupt so they have no choice but to sold their favorite slave to a negro trader called Haley with the Eliza’s child Harry. When Elize heard about this, she decided to run away with her husband George because she is not willing to let the slave owners to decide their own life and death. However, uncle Tom finally killed by Legree after series of transactions. I read the book, named “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.” It’s about the slavery in America. This book became one reason of caused American Civil War. Because many people read this book and aware that slavery is serious problem. George Shelby is a free, slave-owning white man.
After the election of President Abraham Lincoln in 1860, eleven Southern states seceded from the Union. People in the South made a living through a plantation economy, Southerners needed cash crops that were labor intensive, using slaves to work this economy. The Northern economy was very different than the Southern economy the Northern economy was an industrialized economy, unlike the Southern economy. Abolitionists wanted slavery to end and thought it was an immoral and incorrect way to treat other human beings. Many Southerners supported the secession of South Carolina, and many other states, from the Union because they would rather leave the Union now than be killed by the people who hated them and the people they owned.

After reading Uncle Tom's Cabin, I really gain a lot. I begin to understand the tragic history of the slaves in American and the inequality among people at that period. Uncle Tom, as one of the protagonists in the book, is a good slave. However, he can not escape from his tragic fate. His owners can deal with him at any time according to whatever they want.
Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin opens up on a scene with Mr. Shelby, a Kentucky farmer, and Mr. Haley, a slave trader, making arrangements for Mr. Shelby to sell two of his slaves. It is agreed upon that the two slaves to be sold are one who is referred to as Uncle Tom, a local and devoted slave that is widely liked among the household, and Henry Harris, the young son of Eliza Harris. Although Mr. Shelby would rather not sell any of his slaves, the debt that he has accumulated has forced him to. Once he reveals the arrangement to his wife she pleads for him not to sell, but he tells her there is simply no other way.
No slave narrative had such a profound effect on the abolitionist movement in American literature as Harriet Beecher Stowe’s “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.” Harriet Beecher Stowe, a prominent abolitionist, wrote “the novel [to help] push abolitionism from the margins to the mainstream” (Baym and Levine 806), and it did, as the novel “thus moved the nation closer to Civil War” (Baym and Levine 806). Stowe’s “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” symbolized the many aspects that was wrong with slavery through a heart-warming nature. In the beginning of the novel, it symbolized the bribery, but also heartless nature of slave traders. In the beginning Mr. Haley, a slave trader, bribes Mr. Shelby, a slaveholder, to sell him a young enslaved boy named Harry and part him away
