Uncle Tom's Cabin was published on 1852 by Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811-1896). Stowe was a very successful writer and her book Uncle Tom's Cabin made a big impact on American history. "The success of Uncle Tom was not limited to the United States. In Britain, the novel was equally popular, and it was during a triumphal tour of Britain in 1853 that Stowe experienced the consequence of her fame at first hand(Stowe, H., & Claybaugh, A. (2003). p.18).
Many people in the south didnt take to Stowe's book well. Shelby, a kind master. Harry, Eliza's son and Tom were sold to a trader, Haley, because Mr. shelby had some debts. Many of the topics discussed frequently in the classroom was about slavery. Like discussed in the classroom and in Uncle Tom's Cabin, many African slaves were allowed to marry and have children which were then taken from their mothers to be sold. The seperation of families was very common. Both men and women worked on plantations to pick cotton or pick crops. Like also discussed in class and related to the book, the master and slave relationship was as followed, the masters were obligated to provide for his "family" and treat slaves with humanity. in return slaves were expected to obey and do as they were told. The North/South had a big part in Uncle Tom's Cabin as in classroom lectures with slave and slave trade. Many of the slave owners or slave holders were the southerners in Kentucky in Uncle Tom's Cabin. Many northern states or people owned slaves but alot were against
