I believe that Uncle Tom is the most heroic character in this story. This is because he remained hopeful and faithful when put through horrible things, he gave the other slaves hope, even when there seemed like none, and stood up to Legree for what he believed in.

Firstly, Uncle Tom is heroic because he remained strong, hopeful, and faithful when he was put through horrible things. At the beginning of this book, Tom was taken from his family, without any idea of what was to come. Just before being taken away, he said, “I’m in the Lord’s hands, nothin’ can go no furder than he lets it,” … “what comes will come only on me; and the Lord, he’ll help me,- I know he will” (page 109). Also, later in the book, he was sent to Simon Legree’s plantation, where he was beat for being religious. Despite this, he still read his bible as often as he could and did whatever possible to have God in his mind. This is heroic because he had the bravery to let himself be sold instead of one of the children, and because he was daring enough to suffer through beatings to give himself and others more hope. …show more content…

When he was on Legree’s plantation, he told the other slaves about God. He had Cassy read a passage from the Bible and then they cried and talked about it (page 409-410). Even when he was dying from Legree’s beatings, he talked about Jesus in the highest manner. Sambo and Quimbo wanted to know who Jesus was, and so “he poured forth a few energetic sentences of that wondrous One, [Jesus]” (page 469).
