Unit 2 Study Question Assignment
In Genesis chapter 1: vs 1-25, God created the heaven and the earth, but in verse 26 to 28, He created man in his own image and likeness.
“26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” 27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. We don’t know what happened in-between, but it turned out right. I guess that’s what the author presumed, when he compared it to some of the movies, who’s end satisfied the expectations of the majority.
When we consider God’s intention when He made man, and the ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’ that He laid down, and also, looking at the consequences that is to befall man, when he made the bad choice. Everyone will be expecting series of chaotic events to unfold, and for the relationship to go south.
Fast forward to the book of Revelation, it turned out that God promised to create a new earth, which will replace the former garden (Eden), and to restore the relationship that was broken as a result of the choice that man made. It edits-off the chaotic scenes, that observers could have feared to create a happy ending, that is satisfying the middle.
Why are these people special and what is still amazing about that promise?

Christ and culture in paradox
This encourage people to evaluate the perceptions about God and their society. Paradox means contradictory. I found it imaginable to assume that Christ will be comfortable with the cultural state of our society. The Gospel of John 15:14-15 summarized it, “14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. 15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.” (Bible gateway)
Christ who is above culture
This is of the idea, that nature has a roll to play in our cultures. It also reiterates the compliment that they believe exist bet ween culture and grace. This school of thought believe that grace is above nature, and being that nature has it own rules, grace which is presumed to flexible will easily accommodate the lapses that nature creates, thereby putting what they believe to be natural tendencies above Christianity.
