What is hope? Hope, as defined by the Merriam Webster, means to cherish a desire with anticipation, or to want something to happen or be true. Now for us citizens, what does hope mean? Once we know what hope means for us, the real question follows; is there any hope left for the United States in the future? The United States is suppose to be united, but if you listen to the news or read an article, you will notice that the people are divided. Divided due to politics, religion, color, race and the list goes on. What I’ve noticed is the amount of racist issues going around, be it via social media or in public. How do we expect to move onto a bright future when we are all divided and scattered due to race? This nation was born of a declaration that all men were created with an equal right to liberty. The Civil War of 1861-1865 was the war that determined the type of nation the country will become. For a long time, the country was divided between the North and South. The North where slaves were free, and the South where the slaves will always be slaves. This war that stopped slavery was the war that determined wether the United States was to be a dissolvable confederation of sovereign or an indivisible nation with a sovereign national government. …show more content…
A nation where everyone was free, and had rights. At what cause though? At the cause of 625,000 lives of soldiers who fought for our indivisibility. 625,000 lives is nearly the same amount of fallen soldiers of wars that the U.S fought in. If that’s the case, why are we wasting the efforts of those brave veterans who sacrificed their lives for the indivisibility of the nation. Why are we taking this for granted? 625,000 lives to stop slavery and unite the United States in not a small fact. Without those sacrifices, what type of present would we live
