As a US citizen do you want free money? Yes, of course! Who doesn’t! Everyone loves the idea of getting free money without having to work but have you thought about the consequences of Universal Basic Income and how it would impact the United States with everyday life? UBI is like a form of social security to where all citizens in the U.S would receive the same amount of money including children who would get some as well. Sounds like a great idea! Handing out a check every month is not the answer to poverty. Doing this results in much more problems than solutions for residents of the US. In fact, the results will just produce an increase of laziness. No one would want to work and everyone would just want to live off UBI. Instead they would be sitting at home not even having the motivation to go out and find a job because in their head, it is already taken care of. He states, “Earned income motivates people to work, to be successful, to cooperate with colleagues, and to gain skills; however, if we pay people, unconditionally, to do nothing... they will do nothing" and this leads to a less effective economy.” In other words, he is clearly stating that by handing out free money to people, they won't find the necessity to learn new skills to work and to grow as an individual.
