One way he builds suspense is through sound effects. Poe uses the many different sound effects, one of which is the squeaky door. Although it is just a squeaky door the door represents how careful the narrator was to open the door didn’t so that it did not squeak too loud and awake the old man. The narrator cut off his arms, legs, and head from the rest of his corpse. The narrator covered his tracks not getting a spot of blood anywhere. Any human eye not even his could tell anything happened in this old house. The narrator took the arms, legs, and head of the old man and placed them under the floorboards, which he had pulled up. The narrator took every precaution; no one was going to find out what happened the night before. “I smiled, -for what had I to fear? I bade the gentlemen welcome.”(Poe 306) The narrator let the policemen for he had nothing to worry all the violence was in the pas and he covered his footsteps well. The narrator was so confident in everything he had done when he asked the policemen if they wanted to sat down and relax he sat upon the very spot beneath which was the corpse of the old man. Soon however the old mans heartbeat came back as it kept becoming louder and louder only in the head of the narrator; he
