1. Since Crusoe is deserted on an island, he is limited to various resources. Crusoe feels like he in a mental and physical prison “I was a prisoner, locked up”. As he complains about his suffering he uses different comparison to express his feelings. “Eternal bars and bolts of the ocean” Crusoe compares the ocean to a jail cell because the ocean is the only object that's separate him from civilization. In most prisons the tone is depressing, which is the tone that Crusoe creates when he made that comparison. 2. In A Modest Proposal, Swift points out the poverty in Ireland and the rational response of some social theorists. “I do therefore humbly offer it to publick consideration… twenty thousand may be reserved for breed” Swift uses satire to the extreme by proposing to sell and eat the children. If Swift was not using satire and wanted his readers to take his proposal seriously then the whole entire land of Ireland would be occupied with child eating cannibals. Two themes in William Shakespeare's The Tempest are imperialism and colonialism. Shakespeare develop these two themes over the course of the play. Prospero actions convey the two themes of imperialism and colonialism. When Prospero devalued Caliban’s values and made him to adopt Prospero language is an example of imperialism. Colonialism was also prevented in this play, Caliban was a native of the island but Prospero forced Caliban to give up his land “This island's mine, by Sycorax my mother, Which thou takest from me.” Caliban and Ariel eventually became Prospero’s servant through the usage of Prospero’s magic and language.
