In the year of 1607, King James l was the ruler or King of England. The King allowed 110 men to travel on a journey to find gold in a place that is now called Jamestown named after their Ruler. Many colonists died in Jamestown because of the Indians who attacked and killed many. Doc B is a timeline written by J. Federick Fausz in January, 1990. Therefore, I choose to stay at Valley Forge, for there is a chance for me to not die of sickness because of the medical care, there is also patriotism, and people are willing to fight for our freedom. The documents A and C prove that only 14% died of sickness. there were about 12,000 of us to start with, and only about 1,800- 2500 died from December to June. Therefore, that leaves just about 9,500 of us left. However, with all the people that abandoned the Continental Army leaves us with just about 8,000 of us.
My decision was not to stay because of the illness and death rate, the harsh weather and living conditions, and major lack of vital supplies. A major reason for my choice of leaving was because of the illness and death rate. The immense outbreaks forced General Washington to make small camps for the sick who had the same illness. According to Document A, out of 8,000 total people, 3,989 people fell ill at Valley Forge.
Valley Forge was a winter camp for Washington’s soldiers. During this time many died and got sick, but they also trained and got stronger as an army. Even though the colonists had a rough time at Valley Forge, I would have stayed. First off, in the engraving by William Henry Powell, Washington presented his soldiers to the Congressional Committee. Washington is telling the Committee about how he trained the colonists while at Valley Forge.
Valley Forge was a winter camp 18 miles away from Philadelphia, where George Washington took his troops during 1777 and 1778. The British army is comfortable in Philadelphia, while Valley Forge has harsh conditions with the cold weather and the lack of supplies. I will not reenlist when my 9-month enlistment is over. I will not reenlist for these reasons, diseases, lack supplies, and cold weather and smoky air.
The colonists didn’t have any experience with keeping things sanitary due to this lack of experience they contributed to the disease and death going around Jamestown. In document A it said, “ colonists dug shallow wells to supply themselves with sources of drinking water.” This shows that they were uneducated in keeping things sanitary and safe, because if they were educated in starting a new colony they would have known that digging a shallow well would only bring in salt water which is deadly when ingested abundantly. Another example of the colonists not keeping things sanitary due to their lack of experience is “ 110 colonists from famine and disease’’ (document E) This is proof that the colonists didn’t have any background experience when
When the spanish invaded my group was worried because they might become slaves and obey them. I think that Montezuma had to become a slave because a slave but im not to sure. There consaques was to obey them and do whatever the king or leader say to them for what they can do. If they didnt obey them they would pronaly die. The author said,’’ They were devastated by conquering armies and by disease, and made to work as slaves’’’
In the engraving of “Committee of Congress at Valley Forge” by William Henry Powell, it clearly shows how some soldiers are without clothing, and how almost all of them have no shoes. Furthermore, a diary kept by Dr. Albigence Waldo states,”A general cry thro’ the Camp this Evening among the Soldiers, ‘No Meat! No Meat!’ ” In the engraving by William Henry Powell , it shows how the congressional committee was meeting with the troops, but what we can take away is that the soldiers were so poorly equipped, they didn’t even have a pair of shoes to wear, and to make matters worse, they weren’t even fully clothed.
Leaving Valley Forge The author said , “ Death estimate due to illnesses during Encampment December-Junae is about 1,800 to 2,500” (Document A). They are asking people to leave from valley forge because they know a lot of people could get sick and they could die from that one illness. To many people are dying from illness. Many people have that one illness and they want people to leave because you could get that illness from the person you 're with. The author stated,” Many people fight to get over that illness but can 't and just suffer and die”(Document A).
Due to the denying of giving the money , they begin the move eastward , the leader Walter W. Waters, and other veterans had joined along on the march. They had all marched to the lobby to see the legislative passage of the bonus bill. As the veterans rode the rails , trudge along the highways, they wore their raggedy military uniforms . They received campgrounds which hoovervilles were made, but not just in that there were empty spaced buildings in downtown.
At the time in which segregation was a law, the door of opportunity was shut and it was African American students who opened it. These students were the Little Rock Nine. When they integrated, segregationists did anything they could to prevent it, even breaking the law. As the Little Rock Nine arduously entered Central High, they had no idea their lives would be turned completely upside down. This flip in their lives allowed them to have a voice.
Cold was one problem, smoke was another. Hopefully, the soldiers will have the courage to make it through this devastating time. Lack of food, living conditions, and horrid climate are some reasons of why a soldier would quit Valley Forge. One reason a soldier would quit Valley Forge is the lack of food.
