Good evening Ladies and gentlemen, and of course the Class of 2018. It is my great honor to be here tonight, I would like to thank the Verbum Dei administration for inviting me to share a little about myself and the impact that Verbum Dei High school and the Adopt a Student program had on me. My story began in 2011 when I attended the Baccalaureate Mass for the Class of 2011. That day was important for two reasons, my nephew was graduating from Verbum Dei and that was the day I decided I wanted to attend Verbum Dei. During the mass, I heard all these amazing things that the graduating class had done in their four years at Verb. Verbum Dei challenges students to be a model for their peers and for their communities. Campus ministry was one of those main clubs that left a lasting impression on me. I had the opportunity to lead an immersion trip with 12 students to Blanding, Utah to work with Native American on the Navajo Reservation and to bring awareness of the injustice that is affecting the Navajo people. Corporate work study gave students different skills for when it was time to start their careers. Students would have learned what it means to be professional, prompt, and prepared which made them ready for the workforce. After graduating from Verbum Dei, I was offered the opportunity to work for Verbum Dei where I was able to share my experience of Verbum Dei with students who needed help navigating Verb life. I could understand what students are going through since I went through it myself. My years at Verbum Dei as a student and as a member of the staff have allowed me to experience both sides of the school. From being a student learning from teachers to sharing my knowledge with
