Vegetarian vs Vegan
Vegetarian and vegan diets are a popular dietary choice due to how healthy the foods that are associated with these diets. People choose to take part in these diets for reasons such as: animal rights, helping the environment, or religious beliefs. There are multiple diets and two common ones are a vegetarian and vegan diet, but each of these diets require different and similar varieties of food. While participating in a vegetarian diet a person is "not able to eat meat" (Veganism in a Nutshell 1). However, another diet that many people tend to follow is the vegan diet. Another would be that they do have some common foods that they eat as a replacement for what meat provides the human body. They both eat: "fruits, vegetables, legumes (dried beans and peas, " (American Heart Association 1 & Veganism in Nutshell 4 ) Although, these diets do have a numerous amounts of differences. For example a vegan can't have dairy products, eggs, and some apparel products, etc. Meanwhile, in a vegetarian diet the only thing that is not allowed is eating meat. For a vegetarian, some substances that substitute for protein are: "whole grain, legumes, vegetables, seeds, nuts, and soy" (American Heart Association 4 ). A few common alternate options for iron are: "dried beans, spinach, dried fruits, etc..." (American Heart Association 4). A few backups for calcium are: "spinach, kale, broccoli, etc..." (American Heart Association 5 ). A vegan can have some of the same substitutes as a vegetarian for protein, calcium, and iron; although, they do have more that are recommended for them due to them not able to eat as much as a vegetarian. A common alternative food is tofu. Both a vegan and vegetarian have to spend some quality time in the sun in order to get a proper amount of Vitamin D. Even though not consuming meat may be difficult, there are numerous substitutes that one can have in order to receive the main sources for a human
