Living a Holy life can be vague for some and essential to others. Wherever people are, learning about different aspects of religion is vital. Venerable Fulton Sheen is an excellent example of how to live a Holy life for Christ. Venerable Fulton Sheen was an American religious leader who made it his only goal to spread the good news of Jesus. Through books, teachings, newspapers, tv shows, and radio stations, many grew to know Christ because of him. Venerable Fulton Sheen lived a hectic yet exciting life, impacted the Church, and provided significance to my personal life. Fulton was an author, which was one way he expressed his preachings. According to the Church Life Journal of Notre Dame, Fulton authored 66 books, which were published over 60 different Catholic pamphlets and booklets which were delivered weekly (citation). Fulton also wrote many articles and edited two magazines. Many of his books are being republished due to the effectiveness of his writing and preaching style. But, Fulton felt he could do more for God, so he was on radio broadcasting for over 20 years and had his TV show. To teach the next generation, Sheen taught as a full-time professor at the Catholic University from 1926-1960. As well as preaching and spreading the Word, Sheen donated money to help the Church and spread Christianity. Sheen raised over $100 million for the Society of Propagation of the Faith and donated $10 million personally. Sheen recognized the importance of living a Holy life and representing God. He embodies all seven critical virtues: Faith, hope, charity, prudence, justice, fortitude, and temperance. To illustrate these seven virtues, Sheen had a strong faith and dedicated himself to making Christ known and loved, but valued the importance of allowing God to have the final Word. He strived to make others desire eternal life and intended to bring others to Christ. Sheen didn’t view Christianity or his calling as “work” but rather as an opportunity to share the work of redemption. Sheen also participated in Holy Hour for 60 years; Holy Hour is from 2:30-3:30 Monday-Saturday, where he would sit in prayer and meditation. Finding time daily to sit in God’s presence is a great reminder and challenge. Every day might look different, but putting time away to focus on God and be in his Holy presence. Sheen suggested that you don’t have to do anything fancy or a big event to visit God; instead, wherever you are in life is the perfect spot. Also, Sheen spent much of his time dedicating it to others to bring them closer to God. I should strive to improve this aspect of my life. Sometimes, I notice myself not bringing others closer to God or influencing them for God. Reflecting on Sheen’s life and how he treated people can inspire many and influence their choices to live a holy life. While Sheen can never be considered perfect, he sets an example for how people should live. One inspiring quote from Venerable Fulton Sheen reads, “Someday we will thank God not only for what He gave us but also for that which He refused” (Sheen). This quote is significant because sometimes I can get frustrated with God. After all, it feels frustrating that he is taking things out of my life that I think I want, but eventually, it becomes clear why God wanted something different for
