Vera Elizabeth Claythorne In And Then There Were None By Agatha Christie

Looks can be deceiving. In Agatha Christie’s novel “And Then There Were None,” ten people show up on an island and, one by one, mysteriously die. One character, Vera Elizabeth Claythorne, seems to be a typical girl in her mid-twenties. Her purpose in going to Soldier Island is to work as a secretary for Mrs. Owens. Outwardly, Vera appears to be young and innocent, but Vera has a dark secret. She purposely murdered a child. At the end of the novel, Vera commits suicide from all of the guilt bottled up inside her. If Vera was given a tombstone, she would need two versions to display the different sides of her personality: one to represent how others perceived her, and the other to show how she really was.
