Have you or anyone you know taken Vicodin before? Well I haven't either, and before I did some research on this medication I knew very little about it. I will be explaining what Vicodin is, the dosage you should consume and what are some reasons for taking this medication and some other fun facts to know. First, I will be talking about what Vicodin is. Vicodin contains the combination of acetaminophen and hydrocodone. Hydrocodone is a a drug that acts on the nervous system to receive pain. Acetaminophen is a little less stronger pain reliever that increases the effect of hydrocodone. Vicodin is prescribed for moderate to sever pain. Also, Vicodin is abused by nearly 5 million people over the age of 12 in the U.S. Vicodin affects the brain and nervous system. Since hydrocodone is a opium synthetic substance that means it has not been created by nature but created in a laboratory to copy to the effects of the medication called Morphine. Vicodin is one of a few medications with a high chance of psychoactive prescription medications which can produce euphoria.Vicodin works by binding narcotics receptors in the brain, which helps to decrease the feelings and perception of pain. Also, hydrocodone can cause analgesia which means pain relief, sedation, respiratory depression and euphoric feelings, that cause a “high”. Vicodin is a central nervous depressant which means it slows down the brain activity and has affects on other parts of the body. Before researching this medication I knew very little and was very mal informed about Vicodin. Going a little bit more in depth helped me understand what it is, how it works, the recommended dosage and a few more other things about Vicodin. Overall I learned that this is a very strong pain reliever and should not be taken more then every 4-6 hours. The dosage depends on your own personal tolerance and if you have any complications to contact your doctor
