After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the US government became paranoid and consider Germans, Japanese, and Italians in the US soil as a threat to National Security. Therefore, many foreign born Americans were falsely accused of being spies and were consider a threat to the Nation. Sumi and Ingrid were two of many victims that were affected by the aftermath of Pearl Harbor and will experience throughout the war, isolation, discrimination, starvation and more hardships. Also, after the war, the US American fail to recognize all the participants that failed into victim of the aftermath of Pearl Harbor. Within a couple months, Ingrid and her family were completely broke. Johanna was not able to get customers because of the stigma of her husband arrest and couldn’t t pay the house mortgage, having to sell the house at the end. Ingrid stopped going to school to help with chores. The family was heavily dislike and was despise and discriminated because they had German blood in them. That fact was proven one morning when Ingrid found her mother bleeding out. Apparently, an intruder came to her demanding money, Johanna said that she defended herself with a pipe that she had close to her. Ingrid so frightened, ran to get help and ended up in Mrs. McGovern house. She asked her to call the sheriff and to tell Aunt Klara to come right away. In fact, after Sumi came back, she finished her senior year and graduated from Fairfax High School in Los Angeles. She continued her education later by graduating from Los Angeles College of Chiropractic and opened her own practice. She also got married with a veteran from an all- Japanese American 442nd Regiment Combat team and had six children. She noted that she began to feel like her life is more secure, like it used to be before the war. Ingrid made the right choice as well to come to United States because of the simple reason that English is her strongest language, however, it was not the appropriate time for her nor was it for the right reasons. For example, one of reason why Ingrid decided to convince her parents to let her go to America was because she wanted to run away from traumatic event which was a sexual assault. Running away from traumatic experiences and keeping quiet about it result the calamity never ending, even after the war, causing her to look over her shoulder for the rest of her life. The issue needs to be dealt with either by sharing experiences to love ones and more and only then can a person recover the mind from traumatic experiences and overcome those past hardships.
