Prometheus. A greek titan who created man out of his own will and power. Tasking himself with creating life, for glory and honor, while also paying a great price for it. Zeus being jealous of Prometheus and his accomplishments, forbade his creation to have fire but Prometheus dismissed Zeus’ order and gave humans fire anyways. Zeus in anger punished Prometheus for his disobedience. Likewise Victor possess many qualities and characteristics of Prometheus in his quest to create life, as he attempts to create his monster. After seeing the horrendous appearance of the life he had created Victor fleed only to have the monster find him and one by one cause his entire family to die. Racked by grief and the need for revenge Victor chased the monster until he too died. He portrays the modern Prometheus greatly in Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein which is why it was appropriately subtitled The Modern Prometheus because of these two fictional characters great similarity.

Zeus being forever mad at Prometheus for creating man punished prometheus by having him “chained to a rock”, then brutally “Every day a great eagle came to Prometheus to eat his liver” (The Myth of Prometheus par 8). Victor also faced great pain in his labors to achieve glory and honor just like the modern Prometheus, He faced great agony and disappointment of what he created as he states that he couldn't even pretend to describe what he felt then, he “had experienced sensations of horror” (Shelly 57). Furthermore having a lot of his close loved one and friends die to the very beginning he created, Frankenstein was overcome with guilt from being partially responsible for the death of his wife and family.
