In the poem called Works and Days, written by an ancient Greek poet Hesiod, a god named Prometheus gives mankind the gift of fire without the consent of Zeus. This infuriates Zeus, which results him to punish Prometheus by inflicting him with eternal pain. Not only did Zeus punish Prometheus, but he also penalized mankind. In Hesiod's poem, it mentions, "The price for the stolen fire will be a gift of evil to charm the hearts of all men as they hug their own doom" (45).
Origin Poseidon is more well known as the God of Sea. He is the descendant of Cronus and Rhea, and his siblings are Zeus, Hades, Hestia, Demeter, and Hera. Even though it is said that Cronus devoured his children, Poseidon was able to escape thanks to his mother Rhea. It’s believed that Rhea hid Poseidon in a flock of sheep and pretended to give birth to a colt, so Cronus wouldn’t devour him. However there’s another story that says Cronus did devour Poseidon and was confined in Cronus’ stomach until Zeus came saved Poseidon along with the rest of his other siblings.
Metis made a potion to make Cronus sick. Both friends Zeus and Metis tricked Cronus into drinking the potion, when he drank it he threw up Zeus' five siblings. The six siblings decided to over and over throw not only their father but the other titans as well. The siblings and three hundred armed giants fought the titans to overcome them. After ten long years of fighting, the titans lost and Zeus sent all the people who were against him to Tartarus.
Prometheus is a titan God of Fire and supreme trickster. He is credited with the creation of humanity from, clay and of defying the gods by stealing fire and giving it to man kind. Prometheus was getting punished for stealing fire because Zeus didnt want Prometheus to give the humans fire cause he wanted them to die out and for stealing from the gods, so Zeus chained up Prometheus for 30 thousand years until hercules freed him to help him find a hesperides apple. Prometheus was punished for stealing fire from the gods and giving it to humanity. Prometheus had pitty for the humans and he didnt want them to die.
n this essay, I have chosen to discuss the constellation of Gemini, or, as known in Latin, The Twins. This constellation is of particular interest to me mainly due to the mythology that surrounds it. Gemini is located in the Northern hemisphere and, as previously mentioned is known in Latin as The Twins. The two brightest stars in this constellation are known as Pollux and Castor respectively. This may largely be based off the myths large acceptance of Pollux being the immortal twin of the pair.
This was punishment for defying Zeus' authority. Such extreme retribution was common from Olympians like Zeus and is often seen as petty and unnecessarily harsh, even by the standards of that time. Zeus was unfair to punish Prometheus though because Zeus was the one who assigned him and Epimetheus the task of giving men and animals gifts that would ensure their survival. Also, they even helped Zeus in the battle against Cronus and the other Titans. Zeus punished Prometheus for stealing light from the sun but he never punished Athena for guiding Prometheus up to the sun in her chariot just
In the Greek age zeus and prometheus would fight about giving humans intelligence. Zeus feared about giving them intelligence because it would bring lots of harm which would not be good for them. On the other hand prometheus thought that if he gave them intelligence then they would use that intelligence for good. There's evidence on why prometheus is correct about his theory about giving humans intelligence and that it would bring more good than harm . The first piece of evidence that I have is that he showed them was fire.
Even though the Greeks were known for their religious values, but also had other important events that took place as well like the Prometheus – Pandora story. The Greeks at this time period was wondering why the Gods Were giving them so much hell, which my assumption would be that the Greeks kept taking stuff from the God, but I could be wrong, but most likely it would be true. Prometheus ended up taking Zeus fire, which lead to Zeus stating that on (page 35) that “Prometheus and the men in the future will suffer a great pain”. To me this could make since that the Gods gave them Greeks so much trouble because of situations like this.
“BAHHHH.” A sheep stood among its brothers, grazing on the fresh green grass when a sudden movement out of the corner of its eye caught its attention. A small group of sheep were running away from the herd. All of the sheep instantly panicked and ran to catch up with the other sheep. None of them knew what was going on, but they knew they couldn’t be left behind.
When he attempted to hide Io, Zeus simply covered the Earth with a cloud. Hera immediately noticed something was wrong, and when she came down to investigate, her husband turned his lover into a heifer. Both of these myths hint that the Lord of the Sky is actually desperate. As in the myth of Europa, Zeus was willing to demean himself for the chance to sleep with a mortal woman. In order to get Europa, Zeus was convinced to turn into a bull and kidnap unsuspecting Europa.
“I need your help” said Kronos. “What is it” replied Prometheus. “Will you help me overthrow my son Zeus?” said Kronos “What’s in it for me?” whispered Pro “Well if you help me I guess you can be the second strongest god and get revenge on Zeus.” “I’m in” said prometheus.
2.3 Monsters Mythology is not only made of gods and myths – there are many creatures that fall under the category of mythology. These creatures can either be neutral beings like nymphs, dryads and naiads, or they can be the very impersonation of the metaphorical Hell they were created through. One of the prime examples of this can be the well-known mythical creature called the Minotaur. Minos, as a symbol of support, prayed and asked from Poseidon a bull of great beauty.
Mythology provides a goldmine of gods, characters, themes, scripts, and battles for video game creators and enthusiasts. Just as ancient mythology from different cultures inspire art, books, music, fashion and architecture, it also inspires game creators. A favorite among gamers is “Smite”. In Smite, players take on the role of their god of choice and beat the heck out of each other in 5-on-5 mob-style matches with 3rd person shooter controls. With Smite, you can grab a friend and settle once and for all who the real god of thunder is, Thor or Zeus!
Greek Mythology can take people to many different places in their imagination. They can teach people lessons and it can sometimes be inspiring. You can see things that you didn’t understand at first from a different perspective and it can change the way you think about certain things. In Greek Mythology, some important lessons are to be nice with your words, listen to your parents, and not to lie.
My favorite myth is the story of the beautiful and infamous goddess Persephone. This myth shows that everything that happens isn’t always fair. This myth originally what got me interested in Mythology. Not just Greek, but Roman and Egyptian too. This is the most interesting myth in Greek mythology, in my opinion.
